IB Primary Years Programme PYP (Nursery to Grade 5)

At The Ompee Global Schools, we aim at the development of the skills, attitude as well as knowledge of our students. It help them in their academics as well as personal development. Our Primary Years Program (IB Board) motivates its students to be inquisitive, find answers and promotes independent thinking at an early age.

PYP curriculum is constructed on six trans-disciplinary themes and includes local issues as well as worldwide issues. The themes revolve around self-recognition and realization as well as focus on the world and the planet as a whole.

Components of PYP

The main elements of PYP are:

(I) Knowledge –It is disciplinary, trans-disciplinary and is represented by basic subject areas – language, arts, mathematics, science, social studies as well as PSPE.
(II) Skills –refer to the abilities developed and applied by students while learning and in personal life as well.
(III) Concepts –are explored by students via structured inquiry to develop a logical and in-depth understanding which are relevant for the subject and beyond.
(IV) Attitudes –leads to awareness regarding the well-being of communities and develops international-mindedness.
(V) Action – refers to the expectation that a favorable inquiry gives way to responsible and appropriate action.

Method of Teaching

At The Global Ompee Global Schools, the teaching methods are according to IB Board. This developed to aim at enabling students to enhance their thinking ability, develop on concepts, correlate subjects with reality and reflect on their learning.

(I) Visible thinking routines – They improve and develop a student’s intellectual abilities and enriches the environment of the class. It helps them reflect on topics and how their views on those topics have changed.
(II) Classroom routines – They help in developing languages, concepts related to mathematics and provides a sense of belongingness. We develop day to day planners for students to further enhance their knowledge.
(III) Practical Learning – This IB schools in Gurgaon help students to explore, investigate and seek answers to their questions.
(IV) Involvement of Parents – This enhances the morale and academic progress of the child. It also improves the social skills of the students.
(V) Reflection – It is important for both the teachers and students to reflect on the learning style and how the learning has affected their viewpoints, respectively.

Assessment

Assessment is quite crucial in the process of teaching and learning as it gives the required information about the progress of a student . IB Board offers a framework for preparation, self-reflection, as well as collaboration.

This enables the teachers to understand the strengths and challenges of their students and further helps us to strengthen the weaker ones.

PYP Exhibition

The students develop collaborative project based on real-world issues that take place in the final year of PYP. The PYP exhibition is an opportunity provided to students to exhibit the qualities developed during the program.

Student Led Conference (SLC)

We conduct SLC at the close of the academic year where students display their knowledge and learning concepts, skills developed, collaboration, etc. and present it to their peers, parents, and teachers. This assessment provides an in-person experience to the parents on the overall development of their child.
